A YEAR DRIVEN BY NOSTALGIA

A Look Back at The Best of 2021

With a deep belief in personal style and living life your own way, Laura Ashley once said, “Eccentricity is often rewarding.”

While we were moving ahead and looking forward in so many ways, 2021 was also a year where the past became the inspiration for a life well-lived today.

We were overjoyed to see so many embracing Laura Ashley’s zest for creating a life that makes you happy and feels rewarding. Before we ring in 2022, here is a look back at the best of 2021.

1 – Regency-Core: Formal florals reign thanks to shows like the Netflix show Bridgerton. Delicate shades of duck-egg blue and shades of pink mixed with romantic flowers highlight this traditional style

2 – Mrs. Laura Ashley inspired The New York Times: While detailing her enduring appeal, writer Amanda Fortini took an in-depth look back on Laura Ashley’s life for the New York Times. “With her floral-print dresses and housewares, the British designer created a romantic and instantly recognizable aesthetic that, decades later, is inspiring a wide range of dressers and brands.”

3 – Batsheva X Laura Ashley: Vanity Fair called our limited-edition collaboration with fashion designer Batsheva Hay a “full-circle nostalgia fix”.  Delivering cottage-core inspired fashions combined with whimsy and unexpected cool, the collection came at a perfect time for fans embracing a newfound appreciation for femininity and pastoral, country living. Fashion fans loved the contemporary nostalgic collection featuring Batsheva’s signature take on traditional styling infused with Laura Ashley archival floral prints and heirloom-inspired silhouettes.

4 – Top Instagram Posts: The nostalgia-driven year was evident on Instagram. Our most-liked photo and the photo with the biggest reach were both vintage Laura Ashley catalogue photos. The signature Laura Ashley mummy and me looks were also a big inspiration for designer Batsheva Hay and our Batsheva X Laura Ashley collection, which featured two girls’ dresses designed to match mum’s.

7 – Facebook Favourite: Our founder was just 28 years old when she first established her business from her small flat in Pimlico, London. After a visit to a fashion exhibit at the V&A Museum, Laura was inspired to begin hand-printing fabrics from her kitchen table. Creating signature prints and legacy designs, Laura took the company from the comfort of her home and created an iconic global brand.⁣ This photo was posted in September 2021 in honour of Mrs. Ashley’s birthday.
