Our new Stockbridge China collection channels romantic English Country style designed for year-round use
Before you get out the Christmas crackers or tie a ribbon on the presents under the tree, make the holidays memorable with a festive table to gather your family and loved ones.
For a softer take on holiday tablescapes, we have just launched Stockbridge, a new dinnerware collection to elevate gatherings. The collection is designed to create a memorable dining experience, no matter the time of day or year. We are believers that dinnerware so beautiful, should be used all year.
Here are our tips and a step-by-step guide to create a thoughtful holiday table.
Choose a colour scheme: Red and green don’t have to be the only Christmas pairing. A pop of blue adds interest and will make your table feel collected over time.
Add an unexpected twist: For a distinctive holiday colour, add dusty pink flowers instead of the traditional red or white flowers for your centerpeice. Make sure the centrepiece is low. Too high, and your guests can’t see or talk to each other.
Only invest in modern heirlooms: Nothing should be fast about any meal, especially during the holidays. Memories are meant to be created around the table. Invest in dinnerware that makes you happy from the first course to the last cup of tea.
Play with patterns: For a romantic English country look, start by mixing plates with delicate ditsy florals with linens and accessories in stripes, checks, and woodland animal motifs. If you want to keep it simple, mix two prints that coordinate, or if you are bold, try three or four.
Balance formal and rustic: Bring something from nature to the table, such as flowers, fruit, or foliage. Use as a centerpiece or layer into the tablescape to create a special moment at each place setting. Use sprigs of holly for a nod to Christmas or simple pinecones for an organic moment.
Layer thoughtful details: Simplified elegance doesn’t come with grand gestures. Pay attention to the details but still keep it relaxed and fun. Your holiday meal will be stress-free if you plan. Make sure you have the dishes you need for your meal, from dinner and salad plates to soup bowls, coffee cups, and dessert dishes.
Indulge in your cottagecore fantasy: A holiday table doesn’t have to be holiday themed. Step outside the box and opt for a floral print for a charming twist that feels modern.
Four easy steps to set a gorgeous table before guests arrive:
- Start with a clean space. Make sure your dining table and entertaining rooms are clean. Not only is this essential before you set the table, but it will also make you feel more confident as a host.
- All great tables begin with a tablecloth. Have a base layer such as a tablecloth or runner. The fabric will soften the space, but also provide personality and set the tone. We love a chic, simple stripe since it works with any dinnerware pattern.
- Add a centrepiece. A centrepiece is not optional but doesn’t have to be complicated either. Add seasonal style to the table with greenery layered on the table, or keep it simple with a monochromatic floral arrangement. Always add candles. Your guests and the table will glow with holiday joy.
- Make each place setting special: To welcome guests and set the mood, have the table set before guests arrive with layered dishes, napkins, flatware, and wine glasses that will be used throughout the evening. It will feel formal and special as soon as they walk in the door.
