22 pieces to love, Batsheva X Laura Ashley’s 1970s revival collection
Batsheva and Laura Ashley prove they are a force of fashion once again. The two fashion houses have launched a third fashion collection just in time for holiday dressing.
The capsule takes on an English air with the 1970s Laura Ashley aesthetic featuring vibrant Laura Ashley heritage prints pulled straight from the archives. Making the case for romantic silhouettes the Batsheva X Laura Ashley collection is filled with feminine dresses with dramatic sleeves and details, Victorian-inspired blouses, and voluminous skirts with feminine ruffles.
Remarking on her favourite Laura Ashley print in the collection, designer Batsheva Hay adds, “The Waverly Dress in Blue Manafon is my favourite. It’s based on an archival sketch from the 1970s and made in a 1970s print as well. The shape is so old-school Laura Ashley and the print works perfectly. It makes me feel romantic and natural, which is so nice especially since I live in such an intense city.”
Providing a nostalgic fix and shining a light on the enduring legacy of Laura Ashley’s iconic prints and Batsheva’s signature feminine styles, the successful collaboration has had longtime Laura Ashley devotees and Batsheva fans swooning. Celebrities, such as Busy Phillips, Aidy Bryant, Lydia Hearst, and Ione Skye, as well as fashion insiders including Laura Bailey and Lynne Yager, have also become Laura Ashley converts and lovers of the Batsheva X Laura Ashley capsules.
“For this collection, I wanted to concentrate on older prints and really saturated colours, to go back to some of the Laura Ashley basics,” says Batsheva. “I was thinking about the clothing being infused with a deep sense of romance and calm, being easy to throw on, but still having touches of lace and ruffles.”
Here is what we are eyeing now:
A case of the blues: Batsheva Hay wanted to make this collection comfortable and easy to wear. Taking the guesswork out of dressing struck a chord with us, especially as we head into the holiday season when dressing for the occasion should be simplified to wear-everywhere pieces with feminine breeziness.
1970s Silhouettes: 1970s Laura Ashley is back in a big way with this Batsheva X Laura Ashley fashion capsule. Inspired by Laura Ashley’s sketches and fabrics from the era, Batsheva has given the prairie dress an updated look with this collection.
Victorian-inspired: High necklines and feminine sleeve details make these dresses unapologetically romantic and whimsical.
Chic Separates: This collection’s separates continue to evolve, making coordinated ensembles an effortlessly chic way to dress for every day.
