A Room Fit for a Princess

We couldn’t be more excited to have blogger Kirsten of Bright Yellow Door showcasing her daughter Cora’s new bedroom makeover! Read along to see how she created this room ‘Fit for a Princess.’

Our oldest child Sawyer moved out this past fall. It was a big adjustment! We do not have a very large house, just over 1,500 feet, so when he moved out, we felt like there was a lot of extra space. Our oldest daughter, Gracie, received the privilege of moving into his bigger room. Our other  daughter Cora, meanwhile, stayed in the smaller room that she had shared with her sister previously. Since Gracie and I revamped the room to better reflect her personality, it was only fair that Cora’s room receive the same inspired treatment.

We decided to keep both the twin beds in her room for sleepovers and so Gracie could sleep in there as well when we have company. Cora and I love her current polka dot bedding, but I wanted to incorporate some lighter pieces.

I found beautiful Laura Ashley white quilt sets that fit the bill perfectly. Their light texture is a classic look that blended well with the white four poster beds. I folded these beautifully stitched quilts and used them at the base of each bed. The quilts are gorgeously made and I love the pretty tie fasteners on the shams.

It’s so fun for me to look at all the new products Laura Ashley offers online. It’s like being a kid in a candy shop! When I was young, my mom sewed most of my sister’s and my clothes and even most of our bedding. Going to a fabric store was one of my mother’s favorite outings and it soon became ours too since we accompanied her on all of the trips. Her most coveted place to buy material was this one Laura Ashley store 40 minutes away. It was in Santa Barbara California, and seriously? I can still remember its fresh smell. When I would go with her, I’d feel the softness all the quilts, duvets and comforters they had displayed. My memories of it are so vivid. Now having the joy of sharing Laura Ashley products with my daughter is such a treat. I know it would make Momma smile.

As well as quilts, I was in the market for new curtains. Cora still takes naps, and on a good day, she even takes long ones! I needed to find some curtains that were light blocking. In the past, I’ve used a liner with regular curtains, but it always looked so bulky. Laura Ashley has created gorgeous ready made curtains with light blocking fabric built in – how brilliant! They are so well made and drape just beautifully. I love how perfectly they complement the new wallpaper I installed.

For an extra pop of colour, I added a few new pillows from the collection – the pink sequined heart pillows were perfect. They add a shimmery, girly touch to Cora’s beds. And for extra texture, I added two ivory crochet pillows as well.

On any given day, if you’re to visit Cora’s room, you’ll probably find her floor packed with Legos, princess dolls and ALL her favorite books. I purposely kept her decor somewhat minimal to offset how small the room is and to add a bit of calm against the chaos that is usually her floor. I had a small lamp I wanted to use in her room in addition to her vintage chandelier, but being on the small side I wanted to raise it up a bit. I found the perfect base using cute floral printed suitcases. They also double as storage for her all her doll clothes!

Every time I spend moments in Cora’s room, I feel so happy. I’m so pleased she has a sweet space all her own – one that she takes pride in and that suits her to a “P”.

How cute is this little girl’s room? Thank you Kirsten for sharing Cora’s bedroom makeover! Let us know your thoughts below or on Facebook.
