The holiday season answers our need for festivities and cheer. But also leaves us to answer ‘What to get our mum/brother/kids/Aunt Sally.’ Our gift guide series is here to help! Based on likes and hobbies, we have the perfect gift for your loved one. Our first gift guide is for the bakers in our lives.
We all have memories of our favourite holiday biscuits. Maybe you helped your grandmother in the kitchen mixing the dough and decorating sugary snowmen and now you’ve passed that tradition on to your children. Or maybe you’re just the lucky taste tester for all the treats and want to show your appreciation. Our coordinated cake tins, trays, oven mitts and tea towel sets will help serve up all the deliciousness of the season. With the spirit of homemade goodness, why not include a simple DIY ornament with your present? As a bonus treat, our friend Amy from Life Among Wildflowers shared one of her favourite recipes for scrumptious Apple Crisp. Bakers enjoy!
6 peeled apples, sliced or diced, however you prefer
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup uncooked old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup flour (I used GF all-purpose flour)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, softened
Optional: vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce
Preheat oven to 375 degrees, lightly grease 8×8 or 9×9 pan with olive oil spray.
Line bottom of pan with peeled/sliced apples.
In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon.
Add in vanilla, cut in softened butter, and mix well with fork until clumpy.
Side note: I actually doubled the “crisp” ingredients because that’s my favorite part, and I thought the ratio was perfect, but if you aren’t an extra “crisp” kind of person, keep them as listed.
Sprinkle mixture over the apples.
Drizzle with caramel sauce if you wish.
Bake 30-35 minutes, until top is browned.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
Prepare to binge eat until gone.
